It was a real pleasure to be part of the Start From Scratch DJ workshop in collaboration with the amazing Boudica. It was great to work with students of all levels who were eager to learn the craft. The sessions focused on introducing the fundamentals of DJing, while helping students build confidence behind the decks and develop their own musical voice.

It was incredibly rewarding to guide them through the basics and watch them grow more comfortable mixing and selecting tracks. The workshop was exceptionally well organized, creating a supportive and inspiring environment for both tutors and students. Huge credit to the organizers for putting together such a thoughtful and smoothly run programme.

In my classes, we focus on constructing the fundamentals of DJing – technique, confidence, and individuality. My role is to help create a strong foundation of these elements, allowing the student to express themselves with creative freedom and command any room with their DJ skills.

Leading a Start From Scratch workshop at Homecoming was really special to me. While I was teaching, I also found myself learning – watching people grow more confident and trusting their instincts was inspiring. It felt like a shared experience rather than just a class.

I had the best time connecting with aspiring DJs and being able to offer up a bunch of tips and advice to get them started. In my workshop, there was a wide range of skillsets and levels, but I feel like everyone managed to get something out of it.

I focused on breaking down the basic features on the controllers, then teaching the participants how to mix two tracks, which I think is the fundamental skill of DJing and is transferable regardless of the equipment you have available. I love sharing the knowledge and experience that I’ve amassed over my career, so it truly was a fun and fulfilling experience.

As a DJ and a community builder, it was a real pleasure to share my experience during the Homecoming workshop. I love how AlphaTheta is making the practice more accessible, whether by building equipment or by allowing us to create spaces to share knowledge and experience. I hope those types of moments will happen more in the future so people will understand that DJing is more of a community thing than a search for an ego boost.
